Rain on Main 2024: Potential

Water in a bottle. untapped vast power: Magical ability to bend light and reimagine reality. Necessary for life. So much more. How to portray that concept on a rain barrel? It’s like a genie: passive until it’s released. Yea! Glow in the dark paint. After dark the mysteries and dreams become visible. Thanks to the guys at Carmel Hazardous Waste and their UV light, you can see the genie! Thank you Rain on Main . The show and auction is August 9-17. Water in a rain barrel has so much potential: for growth (think agriculture and eight glasses a day) or destruction (think floods, erosion, waves), Even just sitting passively in a container, water bends, flips, reflects and breaks light into rainbows (as a visual artist this is attribute is so cool!). Water is a genie in the rain barrel. My favorite part about painting this barrel was selecting and depicting the optical illusions of water in a container (so many Easter Egg moments!) and discovering glow paint for the Genie to appear. Miracle...

Nature’s Inspiration at Cool Creek 2025

Every year brings a new challenge. Pencils and drawing got shoved aside so long ago in favor of paint and pastels. Getting back to the basics and drawing with graphite and colored pencils is not really all that basic. Lines. Technique. Shading. Blending. Erasing. Ground. Things that are difficult and can not be rushed come together in drawing. Working like this requires patience. Slow down. Breathe. Here are the final pieces in place: The tiny Graphitint drawing sold.This little piece has me exploring more small. Inspired by computer generated work where layers provide flexibility and the opportunity to play and explore the space. "Foggy Day" is on tracing paper. Drawing on both sides of the paper and then layering the drawings to create depth. Painting the "bottom layer" sky with watercolor and then adding the sun with silver ink makes this multilayered multimedia. Nature’s Inspiration at Cool Creek 2024

I am delighted to debut a fused glass painting at this year’s show. This is a delightful show that drives away the winter blahs and ennui that comes with darker days, at least for me. I have to admit that I am always scrambling to choose pieces and often end up creating something new This is the case for the encaustic entered. The brush painted piece that is the foundation has been on my easel for many months. As this deadline approached, I had to do something with it. What better than an encaustic in the closed up house! How the heck do you hang glass? Rabbit fence, of course. Inspiration often comes from a garage full of debris! Lots of non traditional work. It looks like last year’s quilted piece inspired other textile artists to show. I made fit out to the reception in spite of the snow storm. We did have a good turnout.
