A temari ball is a wrapped and stitched layered ball that was created by Japanese mothers and grandmothers for their daughters. The stitched designs conveyed wishes and hopes.
Temari balls have a core that is covered with fabric, wrapped with yarn, then wrapped with thread. The ball is divided into North and South, East and West, and the Equator. Further geographic division points identify where design stitches are made. Temari balls are reminiscent of the earth and the design a map of life.
This temari ball was lovingly created and stitched for the children of the Indianapolis Children's Choir Big Fun Event by artist Carolyn Willard, Indy Creekside Arts.
