Rain On Main 2022

Rain On Main! What an interesting and exciting opportunity to explore art. For years the barrels came out on Main here in Carmel, IN and, “Oh wow! I want to do that.” Too late...

This year is different. Last year I signed up to be notified when applications opened.  This year I applied and was accepted. I picked up my barrel and brought it home in my truck in a soaking downpour (how a propros!). And here it is in my home.

After seeing the actual size, shape and scope of this project, initial ideas went out the window! For once I started sketching before painting….

First painting is always a bit intimidating but getting something on the "canvas" turns an idea into reality.

So, what should these umbrellas be? Should they be ethereal like storm clouds?

Hmmm. The purple side is definitely being painted with the Fourth of July in mind.
It is tough to introduce a new color. Look at that green!

Sarcastic friends can make comments about ethereal clouds looking like jelly fish. Meanwhile something very colorful starts happening. I like it!

Wow! Excelleration of the concept. Color and details are blooming.

The top of the barrel shouldn't be neglected...But can you really see rain drops?

Easter Eggs! Purple Rain, It's Raining Men, It's Raining Cats and Dogs, Traveler's Insurance, Mary Poppins, songs about rain...can you find them and more?

Does anyone ever see umbrellas on sunny days? Not in the Midwest! They go against the wall.

Signed, Sealed and Itsy Bitsy Spidered.

Boxed and delivered. Stay tuned for August unveiling.
